Why do organizations need to track immunizations?

A vaccine trains a body’s immune system to fight off infectious diseases.  Immunization programs succeed not only because they protect the individual to whom they are administered but also reduce person to person spread.  When immunization coverage reaches a certain level (“herd immunity”) a disease can no longer spread easily.

Workplaces that institute vaccine programs can help protect employees who receive the vaccine and also reduce the spread of disease in the workplace. To do so effectively, workplaces will need to have ways to track who has been immunized, remind them to be immunized and make sure that vaccination rates are at levels needed to reduce disease transmission. Digital solutions can both help employers perform these tasks and, at the same time, inform employees and allow them to participate actively in their own healthcare. And digital strategies have been scientifically proven to improve immunization rates. Employing these solutions can help ensure workplaces are best protected from the spread of vaccine preventable disease, keeping workplaces safe and open.
